John G Reel passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on August 20, at the age of 89. John was born July 19, 1935 in Mineral Point, MO to the late Charles W. Goldie M. Reel nee Hansel.
John was united in marriage to Geneva Barton on March 15, 1958 in Wright City. They celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage. To this union they were blessed with 2 children. John was naturally skilled in Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing. He loved working with his hands, he was a main part of those in charge of building the Church of Nazarene in Wright City and Costa Rica. John built his and Geneva's home from start to finish while working full time. John worked as plant manager for MFA for several years in Truesdale and Pendleton. After retiring from MFA, John went on to work at Chic Lumber for several years and then worked maintenance for Warren Co R-III School district and finally retired from there in 2004. John was very much a "Family Man" his family was most important to him, and they loved spending time together whether it was for a special occasion or just a family dinner. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his beloved wife Geneva Reel nee Barton of Warrenton; daughter, Vicky (Bill) Swanson of Olathe, KS; son, Richard Reel of Warrenton; daughter in law, Charlotte Reel of Warrenton two brothers, Sam Reel of Warrenton, Dave Reel of Indiana; two sisters, Bonnie Richart of Warrenton, Rose Dennis of New Mexico; 4 grandchildren, Levi, Emily, Nicholas, and Rachel; 2 great-grandchildren Henry and Paisley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charlie Reel, 3 sisters, Frances Keeven, Isabell Adkinson, and Patricia Sinpole.
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Pitman Funeral Home in Warrenton. The funeral will follow at 12 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to Wright City Community Church of the Nazarene in care of Pitman Funeral Home.
