Mrs. Janice Estella McKenzie (nee: Burger) passed away on Thursday, July 23, at her home in Warrenton, with her children and family at her side. She was born on February 14, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Jacob and Marie (nee: Strassner) Burger. Janice had reached the age of 85.
Janice was united in marriage to William Gerald McKenzie on November 15, 1958, in St. Clair, IL. They celebrated 60 wonderful years together before his passing on May 14, 2018. This union was blessed with five children.
Janice was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Warrenton for many years. She worked designing and building furniture and cabinet samples at Charleswood in Wright City until her retirement. When she was younger, she enjoyed professional dancing in St. Louis at the Fabulous Fox Theater and on the Admiral. She enjoyed the outdoors and camping. She was also very artistic and crafty; Restoring upholstery in vintage cars, painting and crocheting. Janice was also very talented with floral arrangements. She made all the wedding and funeral arrangements for her entire family, including her own casket flowers, but above all these accomplishments and enjoyments, her greatest joy came from being a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Janice adored her family and found a special bond with each of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. They each had a special place in her heart, and those memories will be treasured always by each of them.
Those who will remain grateful for having shared in the memories of Janice's life are her children, Tamura Joyce and husband Larry, Pamela Brown and husband Timothy, Kimberly Knittig and husband Stephen and William N. McKenzie and wife Terry; 11 grandchildren, Delven Dickmeyer Jr, (Sabrina), Katie Gibson (Donny), Aidan Werner (Christian), Anthony Brown (Chelsea), Cory Starks, Jordan Knittig, Trevor McKenzie (Kara), Travis McKenzie, Andrew McKenzie, Jamie McKenzie, and Misty Robertson; 14 great grandchildren, Deven, Jennifer, Kyle, Cody, Cameron, McKenzie, Alex, Jacob, Hunter, Karson, Gunner, Grace, Makalya, and Kaitlin; several great-great grandchildren; three very special, lifelong friends, Joan Crawford, Rita Green and Betty Garrison; nieces, nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, William McKenzie; her parents, Jacob Burger, Marie (Burger) Palermo and stepfather, Nicholas Palermo; one son, Daniel McKenzie; three siblings, Kenneth Burger, Audrey Puhse, and Jacob J. Burger.
A visitation will be held for Mrs. Janice McKenzie on Wednesday, August 5, from 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, beginning at 10 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, also in Warrenton. A burial will follow at the Warrenton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to be given to the St. John's Lutheran Church in honor of Janice McKenzie.
