Mr. James Edward Grafrath, of Marthasville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, with his family by his side. He was born on September 13, 1949 in Washington, to the late Edward and Hazel (nee: Nadler) Grafrath. Jim had reached the age of 75 years.
Jim was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Miller on July 5, 1986 in Marthasville. They celebrated 38 wonderful years together and they were blessed with six children. Jim and Patty enjoyed spending time together at Lake of the Ozarks and while there, Jim loved to go crappie fishing. He also enjoyed going hunting. He was very passionate about collecting John Deere memorabilia. He collected several tractors, toys and miscellaneous items over the years. Jim was a member of the MO-1 2 Cylinder Club for many years, as well as, the Communication Workers of America "CWA" and the Washington Elks Lodge #1559. He loved to play horseshoes. He bowled on the Elks League with family and friends. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. Jim's greatest joy came from his family. He was a family man through and through and loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time together out on the deck at their home, overlooking a beautiful view of southern Warren County. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Jim Grafrath was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel Grafrath; one sister, Betty Unnerstall (Jeff); and one brother in law, Dale Pate; his in laws, Thomas J Miller and Elizabeth J Harvey. Jim's family members, who will be forever grateful for having shared in his life are, his wife, Patty Grafrath; his children, Doug Grafrath and wife Becky, Dan Grafrath and wife Julie, Lori Vondera and husband Chris, Kimberly Grafrath, David Grafrath and wife Heather, Travis Grafrath and wife Amber; 14 grandchildren, Katelyn Cassin (Josh), Madelyn Grafrath, Brooklyn Grafrath, Hunter Grafrath, Abbi Grafrath, Elli Grafrath, Cody Vondera, Haley Vondera, Jacob Vondera, Emma Grafrath, Kaisen Duncan, Charlee Grafrath, Aubree Grafrath, and Jackson Grafrath; one sister, Donna Pate; other relatives and many, many friends.
Jim's family will host a Celebration of his Life on Friday, March 21, from 10 A.M. - 12 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home in Marthasville. There will be a Celebration of Life Service also on Friday, March 21, beginning at 12 P.M., with Pastor Craig Wehmeyer officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church c/o Martin Funeral Home.
