Hiawatha "Cookie" Lee Clay

Mrs. Hiawatha "Cookie" Lee Clay, (nee: Simmons) of Warrenton, MO, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, at her home. She was born August 19, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, to John and Ethel (Nee: White) Simmons. She had reached the age of 74 years.

Cookie worked in various places in the St. Louis area. She was in housekeeping at the Radisson Hotel in Clayton and an auction house in O'Fallon. She then moved to the Warrenton area and began a career in Restaurant Management, working at Flying J, Denny's, Big Boys, and Holly's Cafe. Cookie met her husband Fred Clay in Warrenton and was united in marriage on September 3, 2007. They celebrated 13 years together. Cookie enjoyed shopping, going to garage sales, and auctions. She attended church at the Agape Church in Wentzville, MO. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also close with her three aunts; Wanda, Relda, and Pearl. Cookie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Those who are grateful for having shared in Cookie's life are her loving husband, Fred; her three children, Fred Vanderpool, David Vanderpool, and wife Heather and Tina Vanderpool; four grandchildren, David, Melinda, Luke, and Jesse; three great-grandsons, John, Nash, and Alexander; other relatives and many friends.
