Helping hands are good, self-sufficiency is better

To The Editor:In reading an article in your newspaper a couple of weeks ago regarding the unemployment advice to persons and families...I am an employer in the Montgomery County area and do understand the situation; however, when a person loses one’s job, there are plenty of jobs available. A person may not be able, right away, to find a job in their work classification, but one can work at another while seeking what they desire. It is not that I disbelieve in the programs, but I do believe one should try and adjust to their income as they should want to be self-sufficient for themselves and their family. When starting a different job one may not start at the same pay scale as previously, but one can work their way up the ladder to get promotions, etc.I do believe there should be a time limitation on some of these programs to help promote individuals to become self-sufficient, thus raising their self-esteem. Our forefathers taught us to work and provide for oneself, that was the proud American way.As I find in hiring, many applicants cannot work due to the assistance programs that are available, thus payroll becomes a problem. Most all require background checks and drug testing.Richard TinsleyHigh Hill
