Former Warren County Assessor Wendy (Nordwald) Kozma is scheduled to be sentenced this week for a slew of charges related to alleged embezzlement from a nonprofit professional association.
Kozma pleaded guilty in June to 15 charges of stealing. Kozma served as Warren County Assessor for more than a decade, and during that time was a member of the Missouri State Assessors Association (MSAA), a private nonprofit professional organization.
Kozma was responsible for managing MSAA’s education fund. The charges against her allege that she stole at least $23,000 from the fund, although investigators with the Missouri Highway Patrol have alleged that as much as $250,000 may have been taken. Kozma is not believed to have mishandled any money controlled by the Warren County government.
This Friday, Aug. 26, Kozma is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Sonya Brandt of Osage County, who was assigned to oversee the case. A wide range of penalties is possible, including probation, restitution, and/or prison.
