A man arrested earlier this month by Wright City police has been charged with two gun-related felonies after an allegedly stolen firearm was located in his vehicle.
Fabeion L. Folsom, 60, of Slater, Mo., was arrested March 3 and charged with stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to court documents submitted by the Wright City Police Department, Folsom was stopped while driving along Interstate 70 because another driver reported that he had pointed a gun out of his vehicle. The officer reportedly asked Folsom if there were any firearms in the vehicle and was told no.
The officer reported that Folsom then consented to a search of the vehicle, which resulted in the location of a Smith and Wesson handgun, according to police. A search on the serial number of the firearm revealed that it had been stolen out of Howard County, police allege.
Police also allege that Folsom admitted to being a felon who is not legally allowed to own firearms. Confronted with the handgun, Folsom allegedly acknowledged that it was stolen.
When asked why he purchased a stolen gun, police quote Folsom as replying, “Because I’m a felon.”
Wright City police say Folsom was found guilty of a 1992 drug possession charge and a 1987 assault charge, both in Saline County.
Folsom was taken to the Warren County Jail, where he was held in custody for six days. On March 8, Associate Circuit Judge Richard Scheibe granted Folsom a $25,000 bail, which Folsom paid the next day, according to court records. The next hearing to review Folsom’s case is scheduled for March 16.
