A small piece of property that was recently donated to Truesdale will remain a community garden.Mayor Murray Bruer, at the Feb. 24 board of aldermen meeting, stated he is happy the garden is located in Truesdale and wants to see the property maintained as it has been in the past. He also hopes the garden can be expanded as much as possible in the small space. The property, located at 247 Conrad Circle in the Dieckman Farms subdivision, was donated from The Missouri Bank to the city.City officials discussed the garden with Wanda Thomas, a master gardener, at the meeting. The master gardener group oversees the community garden and provides seeds, equipment and water. The annual cost to rent a small portion of the garden is $20.Thomas asked if the city would be interested in taking over the administrative work and helping promote the garden on its website and Facebook page.Bruer said a work session will be scheduled at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, and the community garden will be added to the agenda.Other news• Also at the Feb. 24 meeting, Kathleen Joyce Gorman was appointed as the assistant city attorney and prosecutor. She will fill in when needed for city attorney/prosecutor Tim Joyce. The city will not be charged extra for her services. The appointment was approved by a 3-0 vote. Alderman Rhonda Colombo was absent.• A work session will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at city hall. One of the items that will be discussed is related to the backhoe used by the public works department. An estimated $9,500 needs to be spent on repairs and tires and a new backhoe could be purchased for around $50,000.• No movement will be made for the time being on whether or not to allow the city’s only full-time police officer be allowed to take home a police car. The item had been discussed at several recent meetings and will be dropped for now. One issue that needs to be addressed is the officer being called back onto duty to handle a call after working an eight-hour shift, officials said.• Work is expected to start soon on the North Water Street waterline project, officials said. CJN Products is the contractor for the project, which will cost around $42,000.Garden
