Deadline Nears for County Seal Contest

Posted

The Warren County Commission is still seeking designs for the county seal with the entry deadline just over a week away. The county is accepting submissions as part of a contest inviting county residents to participate in designing the county seal. As of Monday, commissioners said no artwork for a county seal had been submitted, though there has been some interest shown in the contest. The entry deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Entry forms can be picked up at the Warren County clerk’s office inside the Warren County Courthouse between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or downloaded off the county’s Web site (www.warrencountymo.org). The county commission hopes interest picks up in the final week. “They can be a part of history,” Northern District Commissioner Dan Hampson said. Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner added: “As long as there is a Warren County, there should be a seal.” There is no age requirement on who can enter the contest, but the drawing must be designed by a county resident. Also, designs must be drawn inside a circle that is part of the entry form and can be in color or black and white. The county seal will be prominently displayed in two locations at the new county administration building currently under construction. The seal will be featured as big as 5 feet in diameter above the facility’s main outside entrance and will be 3 feet in diameter inside the commission’s chambers on the building’s second floor. Commissioners previously said the winning designs will be judged on what best represents the county’s image. One design may be selected or ideas from multiple submissions could be integrated into the winning seal. The winning entry will be professionally created by Treanor Architects, the firm that designed the new county facility. The contest winners are expected to be announced by the end of November. The names of the artists will remain anonymous from the county commission until a contest winner is selected. Construction on the administration building is expected to be complete in April 2012. The new facility, located along South Highway 47 and Mockingbird Lane in Warrenton, will house all non-court related offices.
