Mrs. Cheryl Lynn Nelson (nee: Shannon), of Warrenton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Cheryl was born on September 21, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late John and Martha (nee: West) Shannon. She had reached the age of 74 years 2 months and 8 days.
Cheryl was united in marriage to Otis “Barney” Nelson on September 10, 1967, in East St. Louis. To this union two children were born, Shannon and Nona.
Cheryl was a woman of faith and loved her family. She enjoyed all family gatherings and loved to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. Having grown up in the East St. Louis area, she was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. She also loved to watch any football game that was on TV. Cheryl loved to sing and also enjoyed baking cakes.
Cheryl Nelson was preceded in death by her loving husband, Barney Nelson; her parents, John and Noni Shannon; one great-granddaughter, Emersyn Tiller.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Shannon Nelson and wife Cindi, Nona LaFaver and husband Tony; one sister, Mopsey Varner, and one brother, James Shannon and wife Lariece; four grandchildren, Stacia Tiller and husband Tony, TJ LaFaver, Amanda Duvel and husband Taylor, Lucas Reitzel; four great-grandchildren, Xandrie, Gracyn, Silas and Raegan; other relatives and many friends.
A celebration of Cheryl Nelson’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 2, at Martin Funeral Home, 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral services will begin at noon, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
