Charles Frederick Bextermiller

Charles Frederick Bextermiller, age 95, of Wentzville, passed away Thursday, January 18, at the Abbey Senior Health Facility, in O’ Fallon. He was born October 2, 1928 in St. Charles County, Missouri. He was the only son of the late Margaret M (nee Reagan) and Frederick C Bextermiller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mary (the late George) Dunn, Alice (the late Cecil) Cook, and Anna Bextermiller, his daughters Julia Bryan-Corbett and Patty Luedecke and son Joseph Bextermiller.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loretta Joan (nee Unterreiner) of Wentzville, and children Jerry (Annette) Bextermiller of High Hill, Theresa Bextermiller of St. Louis, Mary (Dean) Shaw of Springfield, Sharon (Bill) Sontag of St. Charles, John (Erin) Bextermiller of Lake Saint Louis, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charlie served in the United States Army for 2 years, was a lifelong farmer, a finder of many arrowheads and four-leaf clovers, loved woodworking and carpentry. He enjoyed eating and making homemade bread and playing horseshoes. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, a member of American Legion Post 323, and a longtime member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, in Flint Hill. He, with Joan, took many of their grandchildren to the March for Life every year, in Washington, D.C. Due to the Pro-Life work they did over the years they received the Cardinal Carberry Respect Life Award in 2013.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24, from 2:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville. A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 25, at 11:30 P.M. at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Flint Hill. Memorials can be made to the Masses or St. Theodore School in Wentzville.
