Posted

Mr. Carl Joseph Schmiehausen, was born on August 10, 1943 in St. Louis, and was surrounded by his loving family when he passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, at the age of 82 in Wright City.

Carl proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp for a total of four years. His basic training was spent in San Diego and later a short duty in El Toro, CA.to complete his first year. Then he was off to Barstow, CA for his last three years in the Marine Corp Supply Center. He met Karen Kowalski in Barstow and then moved to Missouri after they were married in 1965. They settled in Florissant, Mo. Carl was a member of Teamsters Local 600. He worked for Be-Mac Transport and Hyman Freight Co. before retiring in 1996. After retiring from the trucking industry, he worked several years with the Busken Construction Company as a Paving Estimator. Carl could repair and rebuild just about anything. From helping his children build their homes and different projects, to helping Karen get ready for the holidays, he loved it all. His pride and joy was his "1929 Buick". He bought it in 1978. When time permitted, he strategically did a ground up restoration. Tires, chrome and upholstery were the only things he couldn't manage. It was a beauty. He won first place at an Easter Car Show at Forrest Park in 2004. In 2006, Carl and Karen moved to Warren County. He transferred his Florissant Elks membership to the Warrenton Elks Lodge #2662. He quickly learned how to run the Bingo Program and eventually became it's chairman. He was a member of the "Richard Scott Haymes" Marine Corps League Detachment #1393. He proudly served as a member of the Funeral Honor Guard and Chaplain. The Schmiehausen Family will forever be grateful for the friendship, love and support from both organizations and also the Greenbrier Estates Family.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Karen Schmiehausen (nee; Kowalski); his three sons, Brian of Wright City, Matt of Eureka, Mark (Lori) of Sandusky, Ohio; his daughter, Sandra Woodworth of Wright City;  one brother, Bob (Georgina) Schmiehausen; brother and sister-in-laws, Gene, Kip (Ila) Kowalski, Linda (Bill) Terhune, 7 Grandchildren, 5 great grand children and many other relatives and friends.
