Those looking to support graduates of the Wright City R-II School District will have a prime opportunity to do so this Saturday. The 19th Annual Blue and Gold Auction will be held at the Wright City Lions Club in an effort to raise funds to go toward scholarships for students in the district. Coordinator Jackie Niermann said it’s events like these that continue to provide opportunities for students to pursue their academic and occupational endeavors, even when initially those endeavors didn’t seem possible.“We’ve got a lot of dedicated volunteers who have been doing this over the past 19 years, because they like to pay it forward to the current seniors,” said Niermann. “We really see the value in helping them further their education.”Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, with a silent auction kicking off the evening. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., with an oral auction to start at 8 p.m. There is still some seating available at a cost of $55 per person.Niermann said the traditional menu of prime rib will again be served, along with the option of a St. Patrick’s Day Irish-themed chicken dish.As for the oral auction, the biggest ticket item is a week-long trip to Captiva Island. In addition, Niermann said there are several advertising opportunities through bidding on the naming rights for the high school football field and gymnasium.Among the items will also be several Cardinal baseball packages and golf packages, as well as an inflatable bubble jet hot tub.“It’s always a great time for those in attendance,” said Niermann. “We feel like this is a good way to give back to those kids and build our future. Especially now with technology, furthering their education is so important.”Wright City R-II
