Elections for leadership of the Warren County R-III School Board and the Wright City Board of Aldermen are now competitive races with the entry of an additional candidate into each of those contests.
One full week has passed and less than two weeks remain in the filing period for those who wish to seek elected offices leading local cities, school districts and emergency service agencies. Local elections will be held in April.
The R-III School Board, which serves the Warrenton area, now has a competition of four candidates trying to secure three seats on the board. Incumbent Rich Barton registered for the race last week, putting him on the ballot alongside fellow incumbent Franci Schwartz and challengers Carolyn Spraggs and Keith Harbison.
Barton was elected in 2022 for a one-year term to fill a vacant seat on the board, and now is running for a full three-year term.
Incumbent Rodger Tucker has not yet registered as a candidate.
In Warrenton, Roger Romaker has signed on to challenge Ward 3 Alderman Jeff Jaspering. It’s the second competitive alderman race, while elections for mayor and Ward 2 alderman remain uncontested.
A new candidate, Susan Traylor, has appeared to run for alderman of Ward 1. Traylor will challenge incumbent Alderman Don Andrews, who is finishing his first term in office and is running for re-election.
Only one candidate so far has registered to run for alderman of Ward 2: Kim Arburthnot. Incumbent Alderman Nathan Rohr has not yet filed for re-election.
Although these elections aren’t competitive, several other candidates signed up for elections over the past week.
In Marthasville, East Ward Alderman Gary Dixon registered for his first election after being appointed to fill a vacant seat in 2022.
For the Marthasville Community Ambulance District, candidates Larry Brewe and Camille Johnson filed for elections in Subdistrict 1 and Subdistrict 4, respectively.
The village of Innsbrook now has three candidates for three seats on the Board of Trustees. Incumbents Cynthia Cook and Dan Reuter, and newcomer Michael Wally, all registered for the election. Incumbent Jeffry Thomsen has not registered.
On the other hand, there are two local elected positions that so far don’t even have a single candidate running.
In the city of Truesdale, only one person (incumbent Jerry Cannon) has registered to run for two seats on the board of aldermen. Alderman Robert Green hasn’t yet registered.
For the Warren County Ambulance District, a board of directors seat representing Innsbrook and east-central Warren County has no candidate. Incumbent Jonathan Laubert hasn’t yet filed.
