Where: Warrenton High School. When: Friday, Oct. 16.Time: 7 p.m.Coaches: Warrenton — Steve McDowell. Zumwalt East — Scott Eacret.Records: Warrenton — 5-3. Zumwalt East — 3-5.Last Year’s Meeting: Zumwalt East 42, Warrenton 0.The Warriors suffered a second straight shutout, giving up six touchdowns to quarterback Shane Barrett. He exposed Warrenton’s defense to the tune of 156 rushing yards on just 13 carries. The Warriors trailed just 7-0 midway through the second period, before Barrett went on a barrage to push Zumwalt East ahead 28-0.Warrenton amassed just over 200 yards of total offense with quarterback Braydan Chmiel completing nine of 19 pass attempts for 123 yards. Jacob Abel led the way defensively with seven tackles.Outlook: Zumwalt East has gone 2-1 since enduring a four-game losing streak. The most recent victories have been high-scoring affairs, with the Lions amassing 76 points against Washington and 54 versus Holt.Zumwalt East will operate out of the spread offense, and McDowell says the Warriors’ primary task will be containing dual threat quarterback Daniel Morris, who converted from his wide receiver position after last season.Defensively, the Lions will switch between a 3-4 and 4-3 look.Warrenton enters the final week of the regular season confident after a dominant 48-7 victory over Orchard Farm, resulting in a 3-1 finish in the GAC.The Warriors continue to exhibit a balanced offense, with Chmiel having completed 82 of 127 passes for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns.Bottom Line: As it stands, the Warriors are battling to maintain a No. 3 seed in the district, which would award them rights to host a first-round contest. The offense regained its rhythm last week, imposing its will on the line against Orchard Farm. McDowell says his team’s focus is the same, but the challenge will be more difficult against a Zumwalt East line that boasts considerable size.—By Derrick Forsythe, Record Staff WriterWarriors
