Easter Seals Midwest recently awarded a $1,000 college scholarship to Arienna Gray, a young woman from Warrenton, who has received autism services from the agency since she was a small child.Arienna, now 18, has decided to attend East Central College in Union where she will begin with general studies prior to declaring a major. The scholarship money from Easter Seals Midwest will enable Arienna to live closer to the college where she will attend classes.“We have served Arienna for many years, and it’s been wonderful seeing her grow and mature into a young woman now ready for college,” says Staci Bowlen, director of Autism Services for Easter Seals Midwest in central Missouri. “We are pleased to be able to help Arienna realize her dream of attending college and living on her own near campus.”Prior to college, Arienna graduated from Warrenton High School and worked at McDonald’s, also in Warrenton.Founded in 1964, Easter Seals Midwest is a nonprofit organization that is committed to helping individuals with developmental disabilities—including autism—learn, live, work and participate in the community. The agency employs more than 1,400 staff members, operates a budget of more than $50 million and provides services for nearly 4,000 individuals statewide through four divisions: autism services, community living services, early childhood services and employment services. For more information, please visit EasterSealsMidwest.org.
