Wright For Judge

The people of Warren County have shown their continued confidence in Mike Wright by electing him six times as their prosecuting attorney. That is what Gov. Jay Nixon said when he appointed Wright to the newly created associate circuit court judge position in Warren County earlier this year.Nixon, a Democrat, didn’t have any reservations appointing Wright, a Republican, to the bench. He was the obvious choice. The voters of Warren County shouldn’t have any problem retaining him in that position in next Tuesday’s primary election for the same reason — he is the obvious choice. In an election year that has drawn an unusually large number of candidates and featured some spirited races, this contest is easy to call. Judge Wright’s qualifications and record make him worthy of retention on the bench.Wright’s experience sets him apart. He knows his way around a courtroom and, more importantly, he knows our community and understand our values. He served as prosecuting attorney for Warren County from 1991 until earlier this year and has extensive trial experience handling a wide range of cases as prosecutor, including homicide cases.Wright has been active in the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, including serving as its president and also has served in leadership roles with the National District Attorneys Association, including as its president from 2012-2013.In 2013, he was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Missouri Bar Association and Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys. The award is given annually to a prosecutor who has personified the ideals of the profession through service to the criminal justice system, outstanding trial skills or innovative leadershipIn his 20-plus years as a prosecutor, Wright has conducted himself with the utmost integrity both professionally and personally. He has built a national reputation as a lawyer who is intelligent, compassionate and fair. That is why he is held in the highest regard by his fellow prosecutors.Simply put, Judge Wright has the experience, common sense and the temperament that make for a good judge. We appreciate that he has upheld and maintained the dignity of the court since his appointment. There’s no doubt that will continue going forward. The only knock against Wright we’ve heard comes from a handful of defense attorneys who say he was too hard-nosed as a prosecutor. Perhaps, but the fact that no one ever ran against him says something about his standing in the local bar. There’s no question Judge Wright, who was born, raised and educated in Warren County, reflects the values of our community. That’s why he is the obvious choice in the race for Associate Circuit Court Judge.
