Wright City's Lamparter commits to Missouri Valley College

Posted

Wright City senior Alec Lamparter will continue his baseball career at Missouri Valley College.

Lamparter played in the outfield and middle infield for Wright City last season, but expects to play the majority of 2016 in the outfield.

“He’s going to be playing a lot for us this year,” Wright City Head Coach Shannon Wells said. “He does all the little things we ask of him, and that’s why we like him so much because he’s a hard-working kid.”

Lamparter hit .273 last season as a junior, and wants his batting average to climb this spring. His coach is expecting a solid glove in the outfield.

“I’d like to see him continue to contribute every day,” Wells said. “Not try to do too much, but to make plays and be a solid defender in the outfield. Good defense will help us a lot this year.”

Wells said Lamparter will hit around seventh in the lineup, which he said is a testament to the depth of this year’s team.

The Wildcats finished 21-6 last season with Lamparter platooning in the outfield and at second base.

This season, he is expected to play nearly every game.

“His versatility helped us a lot last season,” Wells said.

Lamparter said he enjoyed the Missouri Valley campus and the city of Marshall.

The scenery, along with the solid relationships he built with the coaching staff, ultimately pushed Missouri Valley ahead of his second choice, Culver-Stockton College.

“The coaches are really good,” he said. “I didn’t want to be too close to home, but I didn’t want to be too far from home, either.”

Missouri Valley, an NAIA program in the Heart of America Conference, is 7-5 this season.

“He is dedicated and talented enough to play at the next level,” Wells said. “He had some growing to do and he really filled out in the last year, and that will help him out a lot this season and next.”
