Wright City senior Collin Schlapper will continue his football career at Millikin University (Decatur, Ill.) next fall.
The Wildcat lineman signed his letter of intent during a recent ceremony in Wright City.
Schlapper said his collegiate decision came down to Millikin, Missouri Western University and Benedictine College.
“But Millikin felt like home,” he said. “It felt like a place I’d feel safer and happier, so I chose them.”
Millikin, which competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, is an NCAA Division-III program that went 7-3 last season.
“I kind of always had that feeling that Millikin would be my choice, but a few months ago I took my third or fourth visit and the coaches were really showing me love,” Schlapper said. “And that’s when I really knew.”
Schlapper called it a relief and a “weight off my chest” when he ended his recruitment last month.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound lineman expects to play right tackle next season.
“That’s where I’ve been the last two years, so I’m pretty comfortable over there,” he said. “They’ve talked to me about starting, but haven’t promised me anything. So I’m going to go in there and work my butt off and try to get that starting spot.”
