Wright City’s bats come alive in wins

Record Managing EditorThe Wright City softball team headed into this week on a three-game winning streak thanks to a strong production at the plate.The Wildcats defeated Valley Park 10-2 on the road last Thursday and Mark Twain 11-6 two days earlier.They are now 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Eastern Missouri Conference standings. Wright City hosts Clopton Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and then hits the road for three games to end the regular season.Against Valley Park, the bats came alive midway through the game as three different players had three hits apiece to back the pitching of Madelyn Webb.The Wildcats led 3-2 after three innings and followed with three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings to take control. Savannah Bridges, Macy Evans and Janee Hill each had three hits. Evans knocked in four RBIs, while Hill score three runs.Webb allowed six hits in the complete-game effort. Only one of the two runs allowed was earned. She struck out three and walked two.In the Mark Twain game, the Wildcats broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and tacked on four more runs in the sixth.They were led by Bridges who had three of the team’s 13 hits. Evans had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Remi Taylor collected three RBIs in the win. Kayla Jefferson and Webb scored three and two runs, respectively.On the mound, Brooke Vossen pitched a complete game to earn the win. She gave up four earned runs, while striking out one and walking none.Warrenton 14, St. Clair 0: Kaylee Anderson threw a five-inning no-hitter and the host Warriors scored all the runs they needed in the first three innings Monday.Anderson struck out six and walked two. Taylor Nordwald led the offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. Abby Meyers also knocked in two, while Jenny Jansen, Erica Rugh and Amanda LaFaver scored two runs apiece.Warrenton 15, St. Charles 0: The Warriors remained unbeaten in conference play as they jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the opening inning in the game called after three innings.Warrenton racked up 15 hits in the win as five different players each had two hits. Kelsey Huenefeld had a home run for one of her two hits. Teammates Abby Meyers and Erica Rugh had a team-high four RBIs and three runs scored, respectively.Kaylee Anderson earned the win on the mound. She did not allow any hits, while striking out four and walking two.Warrenton 5, Washington 2: Jenny Jansen smacked a solo homer and also earned the save with two scoreless innings in relief in last Wednesday’s conference triumph.Jansen had a sacrifice fly in the first inning as the Warriors took a quick lead and her blast came in the top of the fifth inning. Kelsey Huenefeld had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Warrenton, which led 4-0 after the second inning.Taylor Nordwald pitched the first five innings for the win. Both runs scored against her were earned. She struck out five and walked one.VolleyballOrchard Farm def.
