Wright City senior Abbey Jaspering will continue her softball career at Westminster College (Fulton, Mo.) next year after recently signing a letter of intent.
Jaspering led the Wildcats to a 14-11 record and appearance in the Class 2, District 6 championship game last season.
She was named to the all-conference, all-district and all-region teams for her performances throughout the year.
“Getting all-district, all-conference and all-region this year was something I definitely won’t forget,” she said, adding, “I feel like Westminster is a good school and I think I’ll really fit in there. I went on a visit to hang out with the team, and they were pretty much just like me.”
Westminster, an NCAA Division-III program that competes in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is currently 14-14 this season with a 10-0 conference record.
Jaspering, an outfielder, said she expects a position change next spring.
“I think they’re going to put me in the infield, and I’m used to playing outfield, so that could be interesting,” she said. “Coach Ross had me playing infield my freshman and sophomore year, so I should be able to get right back into it.”
Last season Jaspering hit .431 with 21 RBIs, 10 doubles and 21 singles, but she plans on getting even better before heading to college.
“I want to get better with the bat,” she said, “and hopefully playing select ball this summer will help me.”
