Melissa M. Surtin, 33, Wright City, sustained moderate injuries, and Sophia F. Surtin, 6, received minor injuries, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report. They were transported to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles.
Sophia Surtin was wearing a seat belt, while Melissa Surtin was not, the patrol said. The crash happened around 9:15 a.m.The two were passengers in a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by Rory W. Surtin, 32, Wright City. According to the patrol report, Rory Surtin attempted to pass on the right side of a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of I-70.He then attempted to change lanes in front of the vehicle. The rear of the Equinox struck the front of the other vehicle, a 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Robert H. Worstell, 37, Troy.Rory Surtin and Worstell did not have any reported injuries.
