Wright City woman charged with vehicle tampering

A Wright City woman was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle following an incident on Aug 19.

According to a probable cause affidavit submitted by the Wright City Police Department, an officer was dispatched to a location in Wright City around 1:08 a.m. on Aug. 19 in reference to a vehicle theft. The victim said that Ellen Bennett, 35, Wright City stole the keys to their car while they were sleeping and drove off with it.

The affidavit further states that two other officers were able to call Bennett and requested that she bring the vehicle back. Bennett originally tells officers she had permission to take the vehicle, but later admits she didn’t and made a mistake.

Once Bennett brought the vehicle back, officers observed damage on both drive side rims as well as damage to the front driver side tire, that was changed to a spare due to the damage. The estimate for the damage is $2,437.95.
