Heather Brand, 42, of Wright City, was charged with stealing at least $15,000 from a teller machine, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, on Aug. 5.
According to the probable cause statement filed by Wright City Police Officer Collin Haney, he was dispatched to the McDonald’s in Wright City after the owner advised Brand had been stealing cash from the register. The owner stated at the time they had accounted for at least $6,000 in missing funds.
According to the probable cause statement, Brand was on her way to the store at the time with roughly $6,000 in cash to return, although the owner said Brand had stated her unwillingness to go to jail.
Officers moved in on her vehicle when she arrived and she accelerated, attempting to flee, but officers were able to block her vehicle in and she was apprehended. They found a floral bag in the vehicle containing roughly $6,000 in cash, according to the probable cause statement.
Later that day the owner contacted the police department again stating they believed a much larger amount was missing from the restaurant’s cash, roughly $52,000 from the month of July.
During an interview, Brand admitted she had been stealing cash from the daily deposits to use for groceries and bills and had taken roughly $15,000 to date, according to the probable cause statement.
A warrant has been issued for Brand’s arrest and she is to be held without bond.
