A Wright City woman was charged with statutory rape following investigation of a false police report made in June.

Melody D. Dooley, 41, was arrested Oct. 2. Wright City police allege Dooley had sex with a 14 year old. She is additionally charged with making a false report and unlawful transfer of a weapon, both misdemeanors.

Dooley was investigated beginning June 15, when she called police to report the theft of three firearms, according to a Wright City Police report. She initially told officers that an unknown male had entered her home on Westwoods Road and stolen the guns.

During a followup interview, Dooley allegedly admitted to a detective that she lied about the theft. She instead stated that she had invited the male into her home, had sex with him, and agreed to let him take the guns, according to police.

Dooley reportedly stated she initially met the male at Ruge Park before they returned to her residence and smoked marijuana.

Investigators later determined the possible identity of the male as a 14-year-old juvenile. When they showed a picture of the juvenile to Dooley, she allegedly confirmed that it was the same person.

When a detective told her that the male was 14, police said Dooley made a statement indicating surprise and guilt.

During a forensic interview with the juvenile in question, the teen reportedly confirmed most of the details of the encounter.
