Two wells that supply the Wright City public water system were repaired this week after malfunctioning over the weekend.Residents were asked to conserve water after the motors for the well pumps stopped working. With only one out of the city's three wells functioning properly, water county be replenished as quickly into the system, which could affect water pressure.Replacement parts were ordered over the weekend and repairs were done by public works staff between Monday and Wednesday, said City Clerk Karen Girondo. The remaining well, along with the combined 700,000 gallons of water stored in the water towers, kept the city supplied with no issues, she said. While one well is enough to handle daily water usage for the city, Girondo said it isn’t good to have one well running 24/7.She added that city staff does regular maintenance and checks the wells daily, but equipment failures sometimes happen.Girondo said the current issues will not affect plans for the city to sell its public water and sewer systems, including the wells, to Public Water Supply District No. 2 of St. Charles County. That transition is expected to occur later this year.Wright City Water Tower
