Wright City volleyball will begin its 2017 postseason with a first-round matchup with Lutheran St. Charles Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Francis Borgia in Washington.
The Wildcats (10-11) earned a No. 6 seed, and the Panthers (16-7-2) were seeded third behind O’Fallon Christian and Borgia.
“The sixth seed is right where I expected to be with our record, the teams that we have beaten and the teams that we have lost to,” Wright City Head Coach Amy Geurin said.
Last season the Cougars advanced to the district championship match, eventually losing to Borgia in straight sets.
Wright City lost to Christian in the opening round, and Geurin hopes recent success can propel the Wildcats further this year.
“I think we have been playing really well lately, and have a good push going into the postseason,” she said. “The girls are playing as a team and I am excited to see what they bring on Monday.”
The winner of Monday’s game will face No. 2 Borgia or No. 7 St. Charles West, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Wright City defeated St. Charles West Sept. 21.
But for now, Geurin said her team is focused solely on Lutheran St. Charles.
“They are a strong team with a good record, and they will be a challenge for us next Monday,” she said. “We will be using the games this week to prepare as a team to come out with our best game on Monday.”
