Wright City seniors Troy Muse, Kyle Tuepker and Tyler Brittain capped off impressive seasons with a spot on the Missouri Class 3 All-State team, the Missouri Football Coaches Association announced.
The trio guided the Wildcats to an 8-4 record and a pair of playoff wins.
Muse was a first-team selection at wide receiver after catching 61 passes for 1,201 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Wright City Head Coach Jeff Sargent called Muse one of the best wide receivers he has ever been around, and the best athlete on the field nearly every time he played.
“He doesn’t know how athletic he can be,” Sargent said. “He carries himself in a confident way, but he doesn’t know what all he can do on a field. He’s as good as he wants to be.”
In the middle of the season, Sargent said something clicked for Muse, and he started beating nearly every 1-on-1 matchup he faced.
“I felt bad for the defensive backs,” Sargent said.
Against Centralia in the third round of the Class 3 playoffs, Muse was jammed on the line of scrimmage by a linebacker, and faced another defender 10 yards deeper.
“And he still caught a 50-yard touchdown pass,” Sargent said.
Muse was also named to the Missouri Media All-State first team.
Tuepker, a third-team selection at linebacker, recorded 150 tackles and recovered three fumbles.
Tuepker played a bit of a hybrid position for the Wildcats, roaming between linebacker and safety.
“We needed a guy that could cover and make plays, and he led our team in sacks and forced fumbles,” Sargent said.
Tuepker finished with eight sacks on the season.
Brittain found himself on the third team after returning a kickoff and punt for touchdowns.
He returned seven kickoffs for 186 yards, and ran back 10 punts for 245 yards.
“There was a reason we were scoring 40 points a game toward the end of the year,” Sargent said. “And it was because we were put in good field position.”
Sargent will look to replace Muse, Tuepker and Brittain in 2016, and he said he appreciated what the trio did for the Wildcat program.
“It showed that we made a lot of progress,” Sargent said. “We built a good building block for next year.”
