Where:Wright City High School. When:Friday, Oct. 18.Time:7 p.m.Coaches:Wright City — Matt Brooks. Winfield — Keith McGlasson.Records:Wright City — 3-4. Winfield — 2-5.Last Year’s Meeting:Winfield 34, Wright City 13.The Warriors scored three touchdowns in the final 8:00 to pull away in an otherwise tight contest. Jerel Hall rushed for 250 yards for Winfield. Wright City also had success running the ball, amassing 230 yards as a team, while throwing for just 25.Outlook:Winfield is struggling drastically this season. In spite of that, the Warriors have managed to defeat Clopton and Missouri Military Academy. They are coming off an offensive juggernaut at Warrenton, in which they gave up 74 points. Winfield is terribly inexperienced and relies strongly on quarterback Damian Cagle for the majority of its scoring. He has completed 16 of 36 passes for 222 yards and four touchdowns in a run-dominant offense. Cagle has also run for 213 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries as the Warriors’ leading rusher.Wright City has been experiencing increased success, winning three of its past four games, including a close contest with Clopton last week. The Wildcats have been able to incorporate passing into their scoring effort on a few occasions, with sophomore Kyle Tuepker now playing quarterback. Tyler Brittain has proven to be an aspiring threat downfield, while Steven Soltysiak and Lamone Davis carry the running game. The past couple weeks, though, Wright City has seen the emergence of Tim Burks as a gamechanger. He snagged an interception to seal the victory at Bowling Green and scored a touchdown last Friday with a combination of aggressive yet fast running.Focal Points:The Wildcats are in prime position to earn a fourth win and reach the .500 mark before districts. Injuries to two starting linemen, Christian Thompson and Jensen Elrod, have complicated matters but Wright City adjusted well last week. Thompson should return once he is cleared from a concussion, while Elrod is sidelined with a broken leg. This has shifted a pair of skill players onto the line, making the Wildcats leaner up front. Nonetheless, they should be able to take care of a floundering Winfield team.
Wright City travels to face unbeaten Brentwood on Friday.
