A nationwide event to bring community members together with first responders will come to Wright City for the first time this year.Missouri House Rep. Bryan Spencer is organizing the first Wright City National Night Out. Spencer plans to bring together police, firefighters and EMS responders at Diekroeger Park, where they can show off their vehicles and specialized equipment.“In Wentzville we did this and it’s turned into a huge event,” Spencer told the Wright City Board of Aldermen at its Feb. 9 meeting. “I would like to get this event started here in Wright City.”Spencer asked for the board’s permission to hold the event the first Tuesday of August, the nationwide date of the annual event. This year the first Tuesday is Aug. 1.Schools, service organizations and local churches will be invited to help put on a sort of community carnival, he said. The event will be free for anyone who wants to come and any group who wants to set up a booth, he added.Hot dogs and soda will be available for sale, with proceeds going toward purchasing a new police dog for Wright City, Spencer said.The Wright City Board of Aldermen voted 3-0, with Alderman Dan Rowden absent, to approve a special permit for the National Night Out event from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Diekroeger Park.National Night Out
