Wright City to buy park land — If sewer system sells

Wright City has agreed to buy 62 acres of land along Westwoods Road for a future park, but only if voters approve the sale of the city’s water and sewer systems during elections this April.“We know that there is more need than we can fill right now — for parks, and for ball fields, and for soccer fields, and for all those kinds of things that we would like to have for our citizens,” said Mayor Dan Rowden.According to an agreement with the landowner approved Jan. 11, the city will pay for the land with almost $1.2 million out of the proceeds from the sale of its water and sewer utilities. The utility sale is on the April 3 ballot and must be approved by voters. If voters reject the utility sale, the city will automatically cancel its agreement to purchase the land on Westwoods Road.No concrete plans for the proposed park are likely to be developed until after the utilities sale is decided, City Clerk Karen Girondo said.

This map shows the location of potential park land Wright City has an agreement to purchase if the city sells its sewer and water systems.
