Wright City will build about 3,000 feet of sidewalk near two schools along Wildcat Drive and Bell Road thanks to a state grant. The $133,000 project will be mostly funded by the state Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).The federally funded program is administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation as a way to expand nonmotorized transportation access, including sidewalks and bike routes. The TAP grant will cover 80 percent of the project cost, about $106,000, while the city will take on the remaining 20 percent, somewhat less than $27,000, City Treasurer Karen Girondo said in an email.Five-feet-wide sidewalks will be installed along both streets, along with any necessary construction of access ways and storm sewers, according to the city’s request for bids. The sidewalks will start at Wright City West Elementary School and Wright City Middle School, respectively, and proceed south almost to the North Service Road, Girondo said.Karrenbrock Construction was awarded the construction project with a $133,000 bid. A lower bid was submitted by Sweetens Concrete Services, about $115,000, but the company was disqualified because it failed to properly sign and seal its bid packet.Sidewalk
