Wright City softball rolls while volleyball ekes out victory

Posted

The Wright City softball team is back above .500.

A comfortable 14-2 win over Louisiana on Tuesday marked the third straight win for the Wildcats (6-5).

Once again, a big inning paved the way for victory as an eight-run third inning turned a 2-0 lead into an advantage of 10.

The big hit of the inning was a three-run home run by junior Lorelai Kellner. She also added a run-scoring double and added two runs of her own.

Other big days at the plate were turned in by juniors Joshlynn Hawn (three hits, RBI, two runs) and Makenzie Hollaway (three hits, RBI, two runs).

Senior Ava Swaringen earned the win in the circle, pitching the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.

Wright City will next return to the diamond at 3 p.m. Thursday when the team plays at Lutheran St. Charles as part of the Fort Zumwalt East Tournament.

ST. CHARLES SOCCER 6, WARRENTON 2 – A strong first half fell by the wayside as Warrenton fell on the road.

Warrenton (2-2) led 1-0 at the half before a barrage of Pirates’ goals put the game out of reach.

Gavin Inman and Tyler Scruggs found the back of the net for the Warriors while Ryder Augusta and Caden Baum provided assists.

Up next, Warrenton will host Liberty Christian Academy at 5 p.m. next Monday.

WRIGHT CITY VOLLEYBALL 3, CENTRALIA 2 – The Wildcats’ roll continues.

After a season-opening defeat at Winfield, Wright City won its sixth consecutive match, besting Centralia on the road.

The Wildcats (6-1) will host Eastern Missouri opponent North Callaway at 6 p.m. tonight.
