The Wright City softball team found its way back to the .500 mark last Thursday thanks to some timely hitting and a strong outing from pitcher Madison Hamlett.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the second and then broke up the contest with four more in the fourth in the 10-0 rout of Clopton.
Allexus Donnelly and Hamlett each had two hits to lead the eight-hit attack. Tristen Head and Hamlett also had two RBIs apiece. On the mound, Hamlett scattered four hits in seven innings, while striking out eight and walking one.
The win improved the Wildcats’ record to 8-8 overall heading into this week.
Last Tuesday, Wright City fell 8-6 to Bowling Green. Abigail Vossen had two homers and four RBIs, while Kylie Jarmuskiewcz went deep in the loss. Hannah Kendall pitched the first four innings, four of the seven runs were earned. Emma Thomas pitched the final three innings.
Warrenton boys soccer update
Since winning its lone game of the season, Warrenton has been shut out in its past three games.
The Warriors fell 7-0 to St. Charles West on Sept. 29, followed by an 8-0 setback to Orchard Farm on Oct. 1 and 6-0 defeat to O’Fallon Christian on Oct. 5.
Warrenton, which is 1-8 on the season, earned its lone win in a 2-1 victory over Winfield Sept. 17. Augustine Cano and Phillip Kackley each had goals for the Warriors.
Wright City soccer splits pair
The Wright City boys soccer team received three goals from Martin Lopez-Mora in a 5-2 win over Sullivan Sept. 29. Branden Contreras contributed two goals for the Wildcats.
The day before, they fell 4-1 to Capital City (Jefferson City).
Cross country
Wright City junior Zoe Riggs claimed another individual title last Monday, this time winning the Elsberry Invitational.
Riggs completed the girls race in 21 minutes, 27.89 seconds. Winfield sophomore Kadence Berry followed in second in 21:58.72.
In the boys race, junior Jackson Mazella was the lone runner for Wright City. He placed 28th in 22:47.04. Orchard Farm senior Ian Schwierjohn took first in 17:52.74.
Liberty Christian improves to 22-4
The Liberty Christian volleyball team won two more games to improve to 22-4 overall. The Eagles defeated Fulton in three sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-17) last Tuesday and swept Eagle Ridge in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-19) on Friday.
