Record Staff WriterSue Wright is beginning to see the identity of her Wright City cross country team revealed, as she incorporates new runners and develops seasoned veterans.The Wildcats’ latest performance at the Hancock Invitational on Saturday showed considerable promise for a pair of girls runners, who have their sights set on earning all-state honors by the end of the season.“It was a great day all the way around,” said Wright.Senior Jynna Fritz placed 11th among a field of 71 runners, recording a time of 21 minutes, 51 seconds.“Our goal for her is to return to state for a fourth time and come away with a medal,” said Wright. “She is very capable of that with the times she’s been running.”Junior Erin Tomschin also competed for the Wildcats, recording a 22:33 to place 19th.“She has gotten a lot better, and we are glad to have her complete commitment, since she isn’t playing softball this year,” said Wright. “I expect to see her times come down quite a bit more.”On the boys side, junior Jake Mueller led the way with a 19:05, finishing 34th out of 122 runners.“He did an outstanding job for us,” said Wright.Coming in not far behind was junior Bryce Reash, who is a newcomer to the team. He placed 40th with a tie of 19:30.Also competing for the Wildcats were sophomore Stephon Norwood, placing 69th with a 20:08, and senior Nick Mueller, who took 82nd with a 20:34.“I like where we are right now,” said Wright. “We’re probably at or a little bit ahead of some of our times from last year.”She has also enjoyed the benefit of strong numbers, with 13 boys and nine girls runners.“It’s nice to have those numbers, but it presents competition between the sixth through eighth spots,” said Wright. “It also puts us in a position to have several runners in the top 15.”Wright City’s next race will be on Oct. 8 at Orchard Farm.Wright City
