Wright City R-II school district on track to choose new superintendent this month

Posted

The Wright City R-II superintendent search is down to three candidates to replace current superintendent Dr. Chris Berger.

The Wright City R-II Board of Education launched a search for their new superintendent after Berger announced his retirement in October. Berger’s retirement will be effective June 30.

The district through its social media pages announced the update on the superintendent hiring process.

The final three candidates to serve as the district’s next superintendent are Dr. Juan Cordova, Assistant Superintendent in the Hazelwood School District; John French, Superintendent in the Lewis County C-1 School District and Dr. Amy Salvo, Deputy Superintendent in the Francis Howell School District. The final three candidates were chosen after an “extensive and thorough review of all received applications,” the social media post says.

“There was a large candidate pool and many qualified candidates to choose from,” Wright City R-II Board of Education President Austin Jones said. “The three finalists chosen represent the candidates who, the board believes, can represent the entire community, build on our academic success and proactively manage the anticipated growth in the Wright City R-II School District.”

The three finalists will have the opportunity to meet with the board and engage in discussions with key district staff Jan. 21.

“From there, the board anticipates making an offer to one of the three candidates,” Jones said. “It is anticipated the contract will be approved at the board meeting on January 25, 2024.”

In the social media post, the district states through this phase, the board will maintain a strong focus on the insight gained from the community and stakeholders during the survey process. The post says they are dedicated to ensuring the candidate chosen to fill the vacancy will lead the district with integrity, innovation and a commitment to educational excellence.

The selected superintendent will start his or her duties July 1.
