Wright City R-II School Board moves most 2026-27 meetings to Thursdays

The Wright City Board of Education has made a change to its regular monthly meeting calendar, effective at its July meeting.

Instead of the customary third Tuesday of each month, the board will move its scheduled session to the third Thursday, beginning on July 23.

The new dates of the 2026-27 meetings are: July 23, August 27, September 24, October 22, November 24, December 17, January 28, February 25, March 18, April 15, May 27 and June 24.

“Nobody likes Tuesdays,” Board President Austin Jones said during the April meeting. “The idea was that we’d keep the Tuesday through this fiscal year and we’d start Thursdays in July.

“It’s just that we can’t do it,” board member Kyle Lewis added.

“We all agree,” Jones said.

“We have to wait until July to do this?” Lewis asked.

“(Superintendent Dr.) Amy (Salvo) and I talked about that,” Jones said. “There are things already scheduled on the calendar.”

“There are already things scheduled on other days,” said Salvo, of needing to start the new days in July. “Calendars get filled very quickly. That’s why we respectfully requested to start this in July.”

On the new slate, there are four meetings scheduled, which differ from the norm.

The November meeting is scheduled for a Tuesday, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The December meeting will take place in the third week because of the holiday break. Likewise, the March meeting is scheduled for the third week due to Spring Break.

The April 2027 meeting is scheduled for the 15th. If elections are held on April 6, the board will need to meet by April 20 to reorganize, as board reorganization should occur within 14 days of the election, but not so soon that results are certified.

The calendar was approved by a unanimous 7-0 vote.
