Record Staff WriterThe Wright City R-II School Board will spend $49,920 to replace an air-conditioning unit at West Elementary School. The school board voted 7-0 to approve Schraer Heating and Air Conditioning’s bid of $49,920 over two other higher bids at its March 24 meeting. The firm is located in Warrenton. The other bids were $49,981 by Brush Heating and Cooling and $59,163 by Peter’s Heating and Cooling, both of Troy.“We go with the low bid according to state law, and we have experience with (Schraer), so there was nothing to make us not accept their bid,” said Board President Alice Klem. “We stayed within the guidelines of the bidding process.”Each bid included two alternative proposals. Schraer offered salvaging the copper to the school district at no extra cost and a second alternative of a cafeteria unit at a cost of $3,550. This was added to a base bid of $46,370.“We’ve been on a multiyear plan to replace every unit in there, and we’re getting really close,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Gaines. “We had started to see some failure in some of the units, so we wanted to get them all replaced.”Gaines said the work will take place in July, when students are not present, with a finish date of Aug. 1.Wright City R-II school
