During the closed-door session of its April monthly meeting, the Wright City R-II school board approved a series of administrative hires for the coming school year.
Effective July 1, six positions will be filled.
At the district level, Dr. Emily Wheeler will serve as Director of Special Services.
Wheeler has 10 years of experience in education, having served as an art teacher, special education teacher, social-emotional learning interventionist, school counselor and special education coordinator.
“I’ve already fallen in love with the incredible community feel and the warm, welcoming environment here in Wright City,” Wheeler said. “I can’t wait to dive in and get to work with such a wonderful team.”
Also, Dylan Penserum will be the new district safety and security coordinator. He currently serves as an emergency management consultant for a trust supporting approximately 200 school districts. He has also served as a military police officer in the Missouri and Arizona National Guard.
James ‘Randy’ Higginbotham will be the Director of Construction, Buildings and Grounds. He brings eight years of experience in military and public works project management. He currently serves as Director of Construction for Austibility, where he has overseen the renovation of Andersen Air Force Base in Guam over the past two years.
Higginbotham has expertise in managing large-scale construction projects and, according to the district, ‘is deeply committed to creating and maintaining high-quality facilities that support both student learning and staff success.’
At the building level, Scott Haxton will serve as a new assistant principal at the high school.
Haxton, who has 15 years of experience in education, has served as a physics and chemistry teacher, cross country and track coach and administrative intern.
“I’m truly excited to partner with the students and families of Wright City High School,” Haxton said. “(I’m excited) to be part of a close-knit community where relationships matter and every student’s success is a shared goal.”
Dr. John ‘Joe’ Harrington will serve as the new middle school principal.
Harrington has more than 29 years of experience in education, having served as a paraprofessional, special education teacher, classroom teacher and assistant principal.
“I am passionate about helping both students and staff recognize that with determination and effort, they can achieve anything they set their minds to,” Harrington said.
Lastly, Tyler Rickard – who has served as the school’s head football coach for five seasons – will take over as the school’s director of athletics.
