Wright City High School will honor the graduating Class of 2016 during its commencement ceremony this Friday at 7:30 p.m.The event will take place on the football field, with approximately 100 seniors crossing the stage to receive their diplomas.“The last two years we’ve been recognized as one of the best high schools, and this class has a lot to do with that,” Principal Shawn Brown said.“Their dedication and willingness to settle for nothing less than what they can give every day is what helps us achieve at a high standard.”The Class of 2016 was the first to complete the Project Lead the Way courses and also was part of an upward trend in assessment test scores for the district over the past three years.“I’m going to miss this group,” Brown said. “They’ve been great leaders, in everything from athletics to robotics and band.”The senior class was recognized during awards night on Monday, being honored with $239,000 in local and college scholarships.At Friday’s ceremony, three of those graduates — Abbie Nitchman, Sabrina Koetter and Austin Buchheit — will present their commencement speeches.Also addressing the crowd will be Brian Ernst, who was nominated by the senior class to be the faculty speaker. Ernst is a high school history teacher and assistant coach.In addition, there will be performances by the Wright City marching band and choir.In the event of rain, graduation will be moved into the gym with the same start time. No tickets will be necessary for attending the inside ceremony.A decision regarding the location will be made by noon on Friday.Wright City R-II Graduation
