The Wright City R-II Foundation 5K Fun Run will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at Wright City High School. 520 Westwoods Road in Wright City.

Registration will start at 8:30 a.m.. Line up starts at 9 a.m. and the walk/run starts at 9:15 a.m.

“Everyone gets a shirt for participating, a fun time is had by all, and maybe you will win a medal,” said Dr. David Buck, superintendent of the Wright City R-II School District. “We had 65 folks participate last year. We would love to have you join us this year.”

Organizers are looking for a few more sponsors as well as volunteers, donors and participants.

People who register by Sept. 1 pay $15, which includes a T-shirt. Starting Sept. 2 the cost is $20 and T-shirts are available while supplies last.

Awards will be give to the overall top three male and female runners and top three runners in each of these age groups: 15 and under; 16-25; 26-35; 36-49; 50 and over.

This is the third annual Foundation 5K Fun Run. This year Jennie Bueneman is one of the planners. She said the ultimate goal is to grow the fun run into a community event.

“This is a great cause that really helps us to raise money to assist the schools and students (because) 100 percent of the proceeds go back to the school for grants while also promoting community interaction and a healthy lifestyle,” said Bueneman.

The Wright City R-II School District Foundation Board works to raise money for scholarships and to fund classroom grants in the Wright City R-II School District.

Buck said, “In the past, the Foundation has funded tens of thousands of dollars in classroom grants. From physics units to alternative seating to high school kids making children’s books and then distributing those to our early childhood (center).”

Recently, Fat Heads Car Club in Wright City hosted a car show with the proceeds going to the Foundation.

“Fat Heads (Car Club) have really stepped up in the community this year by providing school supplies, underwear, sweatshirts and sanitary products to be divided up between the Wright City schools,” said Bueneman. “They have also volunteered as a sponsor for the Wright City Foundation. We are very lucky to have them as they are truly making a difference for our next generation of leaders.”

Runners and walkers can access a registration form on the Unite Wright City Facebook page.

The Fat Heads Car Club hosted a car show in July, raising money to donate $1,000 in school supplies to the Wright City R-II School District. Supplies were delivered Aug. 6.
