The Wright City R-II School District is garnering serious attention for two programs it has undertaken this school year.

Character.org and CharacterPlus have selected the district to receive District-Level Promising Practice Awards for the District’s Superintendent Advisory Groups and this school year’s #TogetherWeCan practices.

At the R-II May School Board meeting, Board President Austin Jones commended the district and, notably, Superintendent Dr. Amy Salvo for the honors.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to recognize Dr. Salvo and the Wright City School District for an outstanding accomplishment,” Jones said. “For the Superintendent Advisory groups and the #TogetherWeCan practices. This year, only three school districts in the state of Missouri received this recognition. Notably, the Wright City School District was the only district to receive two honors.”

The honor recognizes innovative and impactful practices that positively support students, staff, and the school community. According to Character.org, “Promising Practice Awards are unique, effective, and replicable initiatives that inspire ‘goodness in action’ and contribute to the field of character development.”

This year, only three school districts in the entire state of Missouri received this distinguished District-level recognition. Notably, Wright City School District was the only district in Missouri to receive two Promising Practice Awards.

This recognition highlights the exceptional work, dedication, and commitment of staff and the leadership team to continuous improvement, student success, and building positive relationships throughout schools and the community.

“Dr. Salvo, thank you for your leadership vision and commitment to creating opportunities for students’ voices, staff collaborations, and meaningful connections across our district,” Jones said. “We are proud of this recognition and grateful for the positive impacts these initiatives are having on our schools and communities.”

Character.org Director of Promising Practices Diana Dodson said the award demonstrates the impact schools have on their communities.

“We are incredibly proud to recognize the schools and organizations that have developed and implemented Promising Practices,” Dodson said. “Each of these practices demonstrates meaningful impact while bringing to life the principles that inspire ‘goodness in action’ and cultivate a culture of character in schools and organizations.”

Salvo said that the award was an honor not only for the district but also for the community of Wright City as a whole.

“It recognizes and appreciates that we work to bring the community together,” Salvo said. “That’s what #TogetherWeCan was all about. It was about showing that we can accomplish more when we work together.”

The Character.org recognitions weren’t the only honor announced at the board’s May meeting.

The district also received the St. Louis University PRIME (Policy Research In Missouri Education) Award. The award recognizes local districts for academic growth.

“That award was for the tremendous growth at West Elementary,” Salvo said. “The team has been working really hard and I’ve been pushing them really hard because I know we can do it. We’re going to keep fighting until we’re No. 1 in the state because we have the best staff and students who are going to make that happen. Kudos to the entire team, everybody in the organization. All of these awards (are due to) everyone’s success.”
