Wright City Police Chief Matt Eskew has resigned from his post.
City Administrator Jim Schuchmann confirmed on Tuesday that Eskew had submitted a letter of resignation effective last week. He was not able to provide a date that the resignation was submitted.
“Chief Matthew Eskew resigned his employment effective June 15, 2021. The city will initiate the selection process for a new chief of police. All interested parties are welcome to submit their application,” Schuchmann said. “In the interim period, the mayor has appointed Lt. Tom Canavan as the acting police chief.”
Further information about the circumstances of Eskew’s resignation are not yet available. It is possible that the resignation and the future of the chief’s office will be discussed during the public board of aldermen meeting on June 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Wright City Hall.
Eskew has served as Wright City’s police chief since late 2013 and was previously a lieutenant with the city’s police department.
