Wright City Mourns Loss of Student

The Wright City School District is mourning the loss of one of its students today, as classes resume following Thanksgiving break.

Chad Lewis, a 17-year-old senior, was killed in a hunting accident on his family's property on South Stracks Church Road on Sunday afternoon.

Wright City High School Principal Shawn Brown says he met with staff as well as the senior class prior to the school day on Monday in an effort to prepare everyone to handle the circumstance in the best manner possible.

“Counselors are on hand, so as students need to talk to someone, we'll have them available,” said Brown. “We gave the senior class a chance to meet and let them know we hope to carry on his honor.”

Lewis was a student in the Vocational Tech program and also a member of the Wright City baseball team.

“He had really found a passion in welding and was looking forward to taking his skills on to college,” said Brown, who described Lewis as a quiet and well-mannered young man.

“Chad was a great kid,” said Brown. “He was very polite and business-like — always a pleasure to be around.”

Brown says the school is planning several different ways to honor Lewis, including a tribute through the baseball season.

Services have not yet been announced.
