Wright City man drowns in Meramec River

A Wright City man drowned in the Meramec River in Crawford County on Sunday, Aug. 2, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The 41-year-old man was swimming near the Meramec State Park boat ramp when he went underwater at 4:20 p.m. and did not resurface, according to an MSHP drowning incident report.

MSHP marine troopers later recovered the man’s body about 200 feet downstream. He was pronounced deceased on the scene at 5:29 p.m. by Crawford County Coroner Darren Dake. The man’s name was not released.
