Wright City man charged with second-degree drug trafficking

Posted

Jose Ramirez, 57, of Wright City, was charged with second-degree drug trafficking, among other charges stemming from an April 16 traffic stop.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Wright City Police Officer Jose Malta-Gonzalez, he pulled over Ramirez in Wright City on April 16 because he suspected his vehicle’s windows were illegally tinted. During the traffic stop, he found that Ramirez’ windows were tinted well below the legal limit and he was also driving without a valid drivers license.

He then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and discovered a plastic bag of clear crystalline substance, according to the probable cause statement.

Lab analysis would conclude the bag contained roughly 56 grams of methamphetamine, well above the threshold for personal use.

According to court filings, Ramirez has several prior drug convictions including felony distribution of a controlled substance in Pike County in 2016 and felony delivery of a controlled substance in Warren County in 2023.

In addition to felony drug trafficking, he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle without a license, both misdemeanors.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and he is to be held without bond.
