A Wright City man is in custody following an incident Sunday morning in the 200 block of Kerland Avenue that resulted in several charges being filed against him.
According to a recent press release from the Wright City Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of Kerland Avenue Sunday morning around 6 a.m. for a report of a stabbing. Once in the area a 43-year-old female was located with severe injuries and she was immediately treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a neighboring hospital with life threatening injuries. A probable cause statement filed with the case says the victim was transported to St. Joseph West Hospital in Lake St. Louis with injuries to her neck. The probable cause statements also said she underwent emergency surgery for a large laceration at the base of her neck with possible tracheal injuries. Additional lacerations to her right cheek and several lacerations to both hands were discovered. After surgery the victim was transported to St. Louis University for additional surgery after being listed as having high risk for complications and morbidity or mortality.
According to the press release, the home where the incident occurred was also on fire with numerous fireworks exploding within the home. As of Monday morning the victim is listed in stable condition.
According to the press release officers with Wright City, the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol canvassed the area and located Colby Jennings, 48 of Wright City. According to the probable cause statement, Jennings said he did something “bad” to the victim. When asked about the fire he said he knocked a candle on the ground and added that fireworks were on the ground near where the candle fell.
A review of 911 audio yielded a phone call from “Colby” who stated his girlfriend was hurt. The victim can be heard talking and stating her boyfriend stabbed her.
Jennings was charged with domestic assault in the first degree, armed criminal action and arson. Jennings is being held in the Warren County Jail on no bond.
