A Wright City man is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly assaulting the eight-months-pregnant mother of his unborn child.
Cortez A. Adams was charged with felony second-degree domestic assault, resisting arrest for a felony, and misdemeanor second-degree property damage Monday, Aug. 3 following an incident the previous day.
On Sunday, Aug. 2, the eight-months-pregnant victim was on the phone with her sister when her boyfriend, Cortez A. Adams Jr., grabbed her cat by the neck and threw it outside, according to a probable cause statement.
Adams then allegedly became upset, grabbed the woman’s phone and smashed it. He then allegedly grabbed her by the throat for approximately five seconds and shoved her. The woman “denied losing consciousness during the incident,” according to the statement.
The woman told Adams she was going to call police before he took her phone, and afterward her sister called 911 to report the assault.
Adams left the scene before police arrived. When he was later located by Warrenton police, he allegedly resisted arrest by spitting on, kneeing, pulling away from and headbutting an officer. Adams, born in 2002, is being held without bond at the Warren County Jail.
Adams has an address listed in court records in the 28400 block of Park Drive. The location of the incident is redacted in court documents.
