Warren County prosecutors have filed a felony charge against a Wright City man accused of having sex with an underage girl.

Efrain Martin-Diego, 24, was taken into custody by Wright City police Oct. 23, and is charged with statutory rape in the second degree. He is free on a $5,000 bond, with the condition that he have no contact with the victim in the case.

Martin-Diego is alleged to have engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, according to a Wright City police report. The girl told a police officer about the relationship in August, the report states.

A police investigator contacted Martin-Diego at his residence in Wright City Sept. 27. Martin-Diego reportedly admitted to having an intimate relationship with the girl, including an alleged sexual encounter a week before the girl spoke to police.

Police said Martin-Diego also told them “I know she is underage.”

An arraignment for Martin-Diego was scheduled for Oct. 31 in Warren County Circuit Court.
