Wright City house fire blamed on clogged dryer vent

A Wright City home was significantly damaged by a fire early Tuesday morning, displacing a family of six.Wright City Assistant Fire Chief Harry Cohoon said the fire originated in the home’s dryer vent and quickly spread to the rest of the structure. It was likely caused by lint that had failed to be cleaned out in the dryer vent. The home was located in the 100 block of Trotters Creek Lane.A van parked outside the garage also sustained significant damage.The fire was reported at 1:07 a.m. Wright City was joined at the scene by crews from Warrenton and Wentzville.No injuries were reported. Cohoon said the home had working smoke detectors that alerted and woke up the family.The American Red Cross is providing food and clothing assistance to the family, according to a release.
